Leadership for Integrated Middle School Science (LIMSS)

U.S. DOE's Institute of Education Sciences has funded a grant for the development of a teacher leadership program for integrated middle school science teachers. Dr. Robert Potter, CSL Associate Director and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Science, is the Principal Investigator for the project. Ms. Andi Ringer, Middle Grades Science Supervisor for Hillsborough County Public Schools and Dr. Dana Zeidler, Professor of Science Education in USF's College of Education, are co-principal investigators.

The project will develop a two-year professional development program to develop a cadre of 30 teacher leaders in 10 middle schools in Hillsborough County. Professional development will include a 10-day summer institute in July 2008, an 8-day summer institute in July 2009, and 6 follow-up professional development workshops during each school year. Teacher Leaders will facilitatea 5-day summer institute in 2010 for 75 additional science teachers in their schools and will work those teachers during the school year to share their new knowledge and skills.
