Project to Rejuvenate and Optimize Mathematics and Science Education in Florida (Florida PROMISE)

Florida PROMiSE is a partnership among the three Florida Public Research - Flagship Universities (USF, FSU, & UF), four large school districts (Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Duval & Seminole), educational consortia (Heartland Educational Consortium (HEC), Northeast Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC) & Panhandle Area Educational Consortium (PAEC)), and Florida Virtual School.

PROMiSE lays the foundation and leads development and implementation of large-scale, systemic professional development and teacher education programs to significantly improve learning in mathematics and science of all students by working collaboratively with a statewide network of stakeholders to implement the new mathematics and science standards.

This will be done in three tiers:

The focus of Tier 1 is to raise awareness about the standards and enhance the ability of schools, districts, and communities to provide a supportive context for teachers to implement high-quality, standards-based mathematics and science (M/S) instruction.

Tier 2 focuses on building capacity in the Florida school systems to implement the mathematics and science standards.

Tier 3 activities will lay the groundwork for the development of university-based teacher education programs for mathematics and science teacher leaders that can occur after the funding period and with other funding streams.

The Coalition for Science Literacy will coordinate evaluation activities for the PROMISE grant.
