"Commission Urges Comprehensive Induction Programs for Teachers." (NASSMC Briefing Services News Brief #3246, reported in Education Week, August 31, 2005, p.18.) The National Commission on Teaching and America's Future calls for widespread implementation of comprehensive, long-term teacher induction programs for new teachers. News Brief

"Teaching at Risk" (Gerstner, L. 2004, The Teaching Commission, Washington, DC). This report calls for a new compact with teachers, built around clear and attainable goals that recognize deserving teachers for excellence. The compact would include raising teacher salaries, while also asking teachers to be measured and compensated based on their classroom performance, higher pay for mathematics and science teachers and for working in our toughest classrooms. Position Florida to Compete for High Tech Industries: This 4-page briefing paper, prepared by Mr. Tom Baird for the 2005 Florida Summit on Mathematics and Science Education, focuses on Florida's need to implement policies to increase mathematics and science literacy in order to attract new knowledge-based industry and research foundations.
