The Project: UR SMART was a two-phase study of teachers who left seven school districts in Florida between 2003 and 2005, funded by the Multi-University Reading, Mathematics, and Science Initiative (MURMSI). Phase I involved a 2-year cohort of teachers from two large districts. Phase II expanded on Phase I and involved 5 small and medium size districts across Florida, allowing extrapolation of findings from Phase I to be verified. Both phases included demographically matched cohorts of teachers who remained teaching in the seven study districts.
